Laser Profilometry for Concrete Substrate Characterization Prior to FRP Laminate Application
نویسندگان
چکیده
T he use of fiber reinforced polymers (FRP) for reinforcement of aging and deteriorating concrete members has emerged as a viable and costeffective alternative to traditional repair and strengthening techniques. Their use enables upgrading of deficient structures to meet today’s design standards (Crasto et al., 1996; Myers et al., 2000). The loadcarrying ability of structures such as beams and columns can be enhanced by externally attaching the FRP laminates to the concrete surface. FRP laminates have high tensile strength-to-weight ratios and high stiffness, and can be easily installed by a manual lay-up process. Because fibers and resins are noncorrosive, they are ideally suited for the repair and retrofitting of concrete bridges and parking structures where high concentrations of chlorides from de-icing salts are found. متن کاملConcrete Roughness Characterization Using Laser Profilometry for Fiber- Reinforced Polymer Sheet Application
The failure of a reinforced concrete member strengthened with FRP laminates may be caused by crushing of concrete, rupture of FRP laminates, or by the de-lamination of the FRP sheet. Therefore, the effectiveness and failure mode of fiber-reinforced polymer (FRP) sheets applied to beams and columns is related to the degree of adhesion of the epoxy to the concrete surface. When a peeling or de-la...

The use of bonded fiber reinforced polymer (FRP) sheets for upgrade or repair of aging and deteriorating concrete structure has emerged as a viable and cost effective method. Previous research has identified several items that influence FRP-concrete bond strength including concrete strength, type of FRP laminate, the number of layers of the FRP laminate, and the bonding agent or epoxy saturant ...
متن کاملOPTIMUM RESISTANCE FACTOR FOR REINFORCED CONCRETE BEAMS RETROFITTED WITH U-WRAP FRP
The use of fiber reinforced polymer (FRP) U-wrap to rehabilitate concrete beams has increased in popularity over the past few years. As such, many design codes and guidelines have been developed to enable designers to use of FRP for retrofitting reinforced concrete beams. FIB is the only guideline for design which presents a formula for torsional capacity of concrete beams streng...
متن کاملA New Generation of Composite Piles: Behaviour, Design Considerations and Field Applications
Piles used in bridges, structures and marine environments are typically produced using concrete, steel, and timber. High repair and replacement costs of these piles have led North American highway agencies and port authorities to investigate the feasibility of using durable materials such as fiber-reinforced polymers (FRP) in pile applications. This paper presents a new generation of composite ...
